Why You Shouldn't Ignore Your Crawl Space

If you have a crawl space on your home, you are probably like most home owners–you rarely (if ever) enter it and hope everything is OK.
Warning: this approach could cost you some serious $$$.
This is a photo I took this week in a crawlspace during an Atlanta home inspection. The crawl space lacked proper ventilation. When the homeowner bought the house brand new everything probably looked great. But over time, without proper ventilation, the moisture had no way to escape and the high moisture levels encouraged the growth of a wood-eating fungus. The home-owner is now faced with having to replace a significant number of floor joists...not a cheap repair.
If you don't want to periodically crawl through your crawl space, that's fine. I don't blame you. But you probably should consider hiring a good Atlanta home inspector who will.
